Teaching expectations

At Injune P-10 State School our expectations regarding classroom teaching practices are:

Pedagogy

Staff provide quality teaching by:

  • ensuring that every lesson has a purpose and that all lesson time is productive
  • delivering lessons (where possible) using the agreed explicit instruction model
  • using strategies to move student knowledge from short term to long term memory
  • accepting accountability for each student’s learning
  • monitoring student learning
  • using data to inform their teaching and student learning
  • using differentiation strategies to cater for all achievers.

Learning environment

Staff create a supportive learning environment by:

  • establishing an atmosphere of high expectations for student work, student behaviour, wearing of the school uniform and student attendance
  • setting a positive classroom learning tone
  • demanding high standards of student presentation and handwriting, in line with the school’s bookwork policy
  • regularly correcting student work and providing feedback to each student
  • providing a high standard of classroom display that is rich, educationally stimulating and connected to the current unit/term’s work and contains high quality student work and exemplars.

Student engagement

Staff facilitate high student engagement by:

  • building effective relationships with all students (ensuring that each student feels valued and respected), their parents, and the community
  • ensuring that each student is given work at a level they can access and which is academically challenging
  • explicitly teaching social skills as set out in the school’s behaviour program
  • establishing goals for and with each student and providing feedback to each student on their progress towards their goals.
