Weekly Classroom Feature: Opti-MINDS Challenge

On Sunday, 24 of our creative students travelled to St George State School to participate in the regional Opti-MINDS challenge day.
Our four fantastic teams have spent the last six weeks preparing solutions to the long term challenges. They showed much resilience and dedication through numerous lunchtime and after-school practice sessions.
Two of our teams entered in the Science Engineering challenge. In this challenge, students had to build a     device that would separately move two objects (a ‘wizz’ and a ‘dom’) to a higher position. The Wizzdom Kids, facilitated by Miss Murray and Miss Murphy, and the Way Out West Builders, facilitated by Miss Van De Poll competed in Division One. Congratulations to the Way Out West Builders, who were awarded first place.
Our other two teams competed in the Social Sciences challenge. For this challenge, the teams had to decide on three key elements of wisdom, and devise and perform a competition to find the wisest person alive. The Wizzdom Seekers, facilitated by Miss Arnold, and the Wisdom Teeth, facilitated by Miss Andrews and Miss Scott, competed in Division One.  Congratulations to the Wisdom Teeth, who were awarded honours, and the Wizzdom Seekers, who were awarded first place.
The two teams who received first place in their division have qualified for entry into the State Finals event in Brisbane in October.
Additionally, the Wizzdom Seekers received a Spirit of Opti-MINDS award. This is a very prestigious award, presented to teams who clearly demonstrate teamwork, resilience, and sustainable thinking.
Hats off to all involved! The day was enjoyed by many students and their families. We would like to thank the parents who provided transport, stayed to watch the students perform and supported students throughout the day and over the last six weeks.
A huge thank you to Team Facilitators - Lee-Ann Murray, Breanna Murphy, Maddison Van De Poll, Micah  Arnold, Leah Scott, and Hannah Andrews, on your effort and support over the term.
We hope everyone enjoyed the experience and is looking forward to competing again next year!
